Asia Svayrieng Water Co., Ltd., (“ASW”) is currently looking for a Drinking Water Scientist (“Scientist”) to join the ASW Site Team in the Monitoring and Reporting Section of the Asia Svayrieng Water Supply Project.
Located on site in the Chantrea District of Svayrieng and reporting to the Treatment Plant Manager, the Scientist will be required to perform all the necessary scientific and technical analyses, calculations, assessments and determinations, essential to the implementation of the ASW drinking water programme.
Day to day duties and activities:
The establishment, operation and upkeep of a site based laboratory in which the Scientist will source water samples from the Daun Toi Lake, at various stages of the treatment process and across the network and to test the same samples to determine and apply chemical intervention to ensure that at all stages, the treated water is produced economically and is compliant with the water standards as currently applied by ASW.
The carrying out of all necessary testing to determine and advise the Plant Manager of the chemical dosing needed at and throughout the intake, treatment and distribution process to ensure the water standard.
The proper maintenance of laboratory equipment, instruments and clean glassware. The calibration of instruments, including but not limited to dissolved oxygen meters, pH meters, jar testing equipment and chlorine testing.
The performance of routine maintenance of laboratory equipment and instruments and the timely ordering receipt and storage of chemicals and reagents as needed.
The preparation and collection and filing of all related records and to provide from the same any records as requested and authorised to relevant and related parties.
Broader responsibilities include:
Reviewing treatment specifications, protocols, and processes at existing and proposed public water supplies and after consultation approval from the ASW Management and ISO 9001 audit teams, amend and update any specifications as necessary and agreed.
Assessing and responding to drinking water treatment related functions, questions, and emergencies;
Determining whether the water production and distribution facilities are utilizing the best available treatment technology, and that the treatment process is maintained and operated in compliance with drinking water rules and requirements;
Reviewing and implementing country statutes, rules, policies, and industry accepted standards;
Acting as a liaison for ASW (when instructed) for all technical matters as related to the public and industry on drinking water quality matters.
